Separate source retrieval from generated synthesis

Research tools can find sources, search private collections, organize references, extract claims, compare documents, or draft a synthesis. Evaluate retrieval coverage and source traceability separately from the fluency of the final answer, because a readable summary can still omit or distort important evidence.

Use a known question set to test citations, quotation fidelity, date coverage, duplicate handling, and export into the team's reference workflow. Verify important claims in the original source and record what the tool could not access.
